Andy McCutcheon
Current Releases

Andy McCutcheon tears through rock's back pages to create a distinctive sound that is reflective, stylish, twisted, and captivating.

From the freewheeling jangle-pop of "Hello," to the angular new wave stylings of The Cars' classic "My Best Friend's Girl," to the musing junkyard balladry of "Life Is Too Short," Andy McCutcheon exudes irony and passion.

Akin to the artistry of Nick Drake, Beck, Robyn Hitchcock, Syd Barrett, and early Bowie, McCutcheon tantalizes the senses with an array of emotional depth, a whirlpool mixture of instrumental textures, and astute observations of the human condition molded into splashing pop melodies.

Since the 2002 release of his first full length CD, Welcome to Periphery, on NMX Records, McCutcheon has garnered critical praise for both his recordings and live performances, as well as the enthusiasm of rock legends, such as Ray Manzarek of the Doors and Gene Simmons of Kiss. Extreme Magazine hailed WTP as "a Boiesque/MoodyBluesy aural Tapestry... off-kilter, kitchy and keen (on insight)," while a Music Connection club review identified McCutcheon as "a charismatic performer peddling a on-of-a- kind product, who's unique voice and inventive song structure place him alongside artists like Beck, Cake and early Bowie."

In addition to his local accomplishments, McCutcheon has also begun to penetrate the national college radio and television markets, boasting a CMJ Top Five Pick in December of 2003, as well as placing songs on Spike and MTV's Tripped Out and Ten Things Every Guy Should Experience. In 2004, McCutcheon signed with Bad Habit/Jetspeed Records , recording and releasing Life Is Too Short, which gained him more critical attention, a distribution deal with Not Lame Records, as well as the opportunity to work with major label producer Brad Gilderman. A Music Connection review of the EP declares: "McCutcheon's gift for melodic hooks and his uncanny ability to emulate classic rock heroes (early David Bowie, Marc Bolan, Lou Reed, Ian Hunter & The Doors) adds up to a collection of original glam-edelic tunes! that will be of interest to creative music supervisors and labels."

McCutcheon is currently completing a new CD, produced and engineered by triple Grammy-nominated producer, Brad Gilderman. Known for his work with legendary artists such as Eric Clapton, Tom Petty, Brian Wilson, X, and Motley Crue, Gilderman hones McCutcheon's retro-inspired eclecticism into razor-sharp focus, producing a sound that is at once innovative and classic. Adding former Briggs bassist Richard Sanchez and former Resistance drummer Bob Mars to his line up, McCutcheon continues to promote his solo releases in the Los Angeles area as well as perform and record with The Reversibles.
